This music, originally written for two flutes without bass by the French composer Joseph Bodin de Boismortier has been rearranged to be playable with two guitars. Speed indications have been deliberately withheld, so that the guitarists can adapt it to their abilities and tastes.
Eugène den Hoed, adaptor of ‘Aria con variazione detta “La Frescobalda”‘, has variedly elaborated all repeats of both the aria itself and all variations. This sets it apart from Andrès Segovia’s edition, which was published in 1962. Eugène den Hoed applied a “non-romantic fingering” and added two extra variations, which were absent in Segovia’s edition.
